HAROLD ROSEN: CHOOSE YOUR FROG

An excellent collection of nature poems, though in reflecting on his East End childhood, in which nature meant skinny dogs and eels on Hoxton Street Market, the contrast with what is usually covered by nature poetry is all the more striking.

I particularly liked HONEY BEE, in which the refusal to accept the apparent death of the creature makes for a very moving poem indeed:

	Out of the lifeless body
Comes the tongue thin as a hair
	Taking its ivalid's breakfast
Nature is sharply observed and the world of his childhood is effortlessly evoked, making a highly enjoyable collection.
