SCENE IN SERENITY
Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia, 1987
The opal green ocean rolled to the shore
Exploding into a cream soda of surf
Before dissolving into the tears
Of a mermaid's long lost romance
The sunbow's last embers
Beamed forth from the painted horizon
Pink tinting the luminescent sea
With a sheen of perfect serenity
While the ageless stars
Began their timeless spectacle
On the deep blue threshold of twilight,
The world awaited to dream
In her orbits of harmony

And for a wishful moment
I believed
I had never heard of war
And knew only
All things in tranquility.
