The Romanian Haiku Society is thriving, having been set up in 1991. The publisher selected 316 haiku from 156 poets around the world who have been writing haiku for many years. The poems were translated into English and French, the translators being Paula Romanescu, Vasile Moldovan and Nicolitov Alentin.

The subject matter is pleasingly varied, and ranges from haiku about the sea:

	winter night —
	the troubled sea
	eating up white

	Petre Andrei Fluerasu

		small paper boat
		furrows the puddle
		wishfull of oceans
		Nella Balina-Dancheva
to those about various flowers:

	valentine's Day —
	at the bank entrance
	a crushed rose

	Alecsandar Seva
and contemplations about life and haiku:

	I'm translating haiku . . .
	among old words
	new meanings
	
	Bogdanka Stojanovski

		winter seclusion
		a writer lost in the deep
		white of a blank 

		Andre Suridge
This is an interesting and well-presented anthology which should be useful for those learning the languages too.
